BALB/c Nude Vr HO Mice

Developed through crosses and back-crosses between BALB/cABom-nu and BALB/cAnNCrj-nu at Charles River Laboratories Japan (CRLJ). Pedigreed pregnant females of CAnN.Cg-Foxn1nu/Crl were received from CRLJ in 1985. Separate colonies of the BALB/c nude were established in North America and Vital River Laboratories (Vr) in China. As a result, these colonies are not genetically identical, which is reflected in observed phenotypic differences – most notably, animals from the Chinese colony tend to be larger than the North American colony of Balb/c Nude Mice (strain code 194). The model lacks a thymus, is unable to produce T-cells, and is therefore immunodeficient.A colony of the Vital River BALB/c nude was established in North America in 2026.The control model for the BALB/c Nude Vr HO is the BALB/c Nude Vr HE Mouse.
